Hello, loyal readers,
It’s that time again, time for me to update you on how Siblings of Steel is progressing.
We are deep into the concept art stage, which will have to be completed before thumb-nailing can begin. I wrote up a list of everything that needs to be designed before I can start, and am making good progress. There are ten items listed (and may be more as I think of them), and right now I’ve been hard at work on the first two. Redesigning the Forsy (the robot main characters) and designing their ship (shown below).
I wanted the ship, Pyre, to look clean and slick, while still having personality to it. In future iterations, I’m thinking of adding more personal touches to the interior. I want it to feel like a home. The Forsy don’t need food or water, and they can sleep/ recharge in their chairs, but they still will have picked up little nicknaks and items of personal interest in their travels that they have decided to hold on to. Each one of these will help tell us about their personality. Also, they will be using this ship for a large amount of time in the series, so I want a design I feel happy drawing over and over again. Right now I’m pretty satisfied with this take, but I will probably make more tweaks before I’m done. It’s hard for me to wait to start on the thumbnails, I really want to get going on them, but previous experience has taught me that I’m more likely to come up with designs I like when I take the time to come up with them ahead of time.
Ah old Siblings of Steel, so many things added by the seat of my pants 😑.
As you can see, I’ve been giving a lot of thought as to the functionality of the ship. The main characters, Phren and Yoselin, are Jedi style peace keepers/ police who roam the galaxy, solving crimes and keeping order in the empire. Pyre, their ship, serves as their base of operations/ mobile home while they are away from their home world. It’s important that it feels livable. Pyre is also a character unto herself, so she needs to have her personality reflected in the design as well.
I still have a ways to go, but I’m getting there.
You might have noticed I mentioned I am also designing the Forsy. I want to show you what I have so far, but I think it might be more fun to save it for a future update. My goal with these is to keep you guys engaged and draw attention to the series. And keeping something for later seems like the right move.
Well ,that’s all I have for now. I hope you enjoyed this quick update and insight into the making of Siblings of Steel. And I hope you’ll check it out when I’m ready to release it.
Let me know what you thought in the comments, and I’ll see you guys in the next one!
